The War Memorial
Bournemouth’s imposing War Memorial
stands by the Bourne Stream in the middle of the Central Gardens. It was
unveiled by the Lord Lieutenant of Hampshire, Major General J E B Seeley, on 8th
November 1922.
Designed by A E Shervey, the Deputy
Borough Architect, the monumental work was carried out by local sculptor W A
Hoare from Boscombe. Borders of rose bushes were also planted at the same time.
In 1980 the Memorial was cleaned and
refurbished, proceeds from the Town Lottery being used to pay for the costs.
